The LifeWatch Italy Semantic Platform Ontology is a graph-based data model designed to integrate and represent datasets produced by biodiversity and ecosystem researchers in LifeWatch Italy, along with the associated metadata. This semantic framework is implemented within the LifeWatch Italy Semantic Platform, offering users a browser to navigate ontology classes, a search engine, a SPARQL query endpoint, and other related services. The ontology developed by reusing LifeWatch Italy Domain Ontology, several term from Data Catalog Vocabulary, The PROV Ontology, FOAF Vocabulary Specification, and I-ADOPT Framework, enhancing interoperability and facilitating integration with other systems using these standards. The design of the ontology adheres to FAIR principles. It uses persistent identifiers, OWL2 for knowledge representation, semantic versioning, and rich metadata, including licensing and provenance details.
